Summer Bucket List 2012- # 3 and 4

Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to go opposite to the way you had planned? We were supposed to go to up to Brighton, CO to pick something up, but we neglected to think what the traffic would be like the Friday before Memorial day.  The people weren't there there when we called to get further directions.  So we were wondering if it was a wasted trip.  We went with the flow and look what we accomplished.  Two Bucket  list items in one day.  We accomplished a lot this week as well.  This "Not Bummer Summer" is getting of to a great start.  And we are officially done with the school for the year!

So here's the recap of the day. Finding that we couldn't get to where we intended to be, we made the best of the situation.  And since we had made it (after a very long, very boring) drive through Denver traffic we thought we would hit Barr Lake State Park for an impromptu family picnic. And that my friends, is two items from our Bucket List.
 First... Barr Lake State Park

We spent some time getting an up close view of some fire ants and their home.

Making mustaches out of weeds.

The State Park had a playground in the picnic area.Too bad this park doesn't offer any camping.

A very healthy looking picnic rabbit.

A quick stop at the local grocery store and we had the fixings for a great picnic dinner.
Admiring the wildlife.
This lake/reservoir is beautiful.  It is surprising that in the 1960s  was a toxic lake.  Through environmental reclaiming efforts it is beautiful.

Throwing rocks and making splashes.  What else are kids going to do.

And my Mr. J... always walking behind, soaking up every last little bit he can.   He savors everything.
And then we made it to where we were supposed to be.... a bird far.  It was hard to take pictures through chicken wire.  But the wide variety of birds they had was very interesting.

And some other animals too.  I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the ostriches.

Baby ducks and geese. It was hard to tell them no.

What a day! It didn't go as planned... But hey... look at all that we did.
